The hush puppies are AMAZING! We tried coming here during Labor day weekend and the place was packed. Instead we came for lunch today and let me tell you...I would come back again. The hush puppies have me sold! Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Fun place to have dinner and drinks with outdoor seating! Out waitress was a bit cold at first but warmed up later on. We ordered several fried items, the best being the catfish. The fried clams were small, the grouper was a bit dry, the fried green tomatoes and the french fries were a bit soggy. The oysters were huge, came with a side of horseradish which was nice. Never had hushpuppies before, tasted like a fried condensed doughnut that came with honey butter. Would come back for the catfish and the outdoor seating.

Bubba's Fish Shack is always a must when we visit Myrtle Beach. It's a short, enjoyable drive from where we stay that offers nice ocean views from its outdoor dining area. Bring a marker to leave your mark on the deck or building. There are thousands of signatures and small graffiti all over it. It's fun to look back each year for our names!

Very casual, brown paper on the tables. Reasonably priced. A little slow on initial drink service. Grilled Mahi sandwich (on special) was very good. The blackened Grouper sandwich was a little too spicy and the piece of fish was small, only about half of the bun. Popcorn shrimp and hush puppies were a highlight.

I had the shrimp basket the first time I was here and the small house salad the second time. The food was delicious. I look forward to coming here anytime I visit the Myrtle Beach area. Bring a permanent marker to leave your mark - they encourage it. :)

Had a wonderful date night with the wife at this quaint little joint. Decor is very beachy and fun, service was amazing and the menu was great. Cocktails were tasty and reasonably priced, I had the peel and eat shrimp and hush puppies and they were excellent, the cocktail sauce was flavorful and spicy. My wife had fried shrimp and fries and they were awesome, not to heavily breaded. Will be back again for sure!!

First of all, you are invited to write a little signature or note so BRING A MARKER and you will be able to write anywhere at all on the building. TO THE FOOD. I had the Chili Glazed Shrimp and my gosh that was the BEST glaze ever and the shrimp was nice and crispy (pleaaaaase dip them in Ranch it's amazing) not too spicy, it's actually pretty sweet. The shrimp are a normal/large size as opposed to my sister's tiny popcorn shrimp meal, so the chili glazed shrimps were a large portion. The atmosphere is so friendly and bizarre (massive amounts of fishing accessories and decor, dim lit) overall, service was very fast and friendly, I can't wait to return!

Our waitress offered service with a scowl, but the food was good. The hush puppies were divine and easily the best past of the meal. Fresh-fried, sweet, not to be missed. I had a shrimp po'boy. Normally this is more than shrimp, onions, and lettuce on a bun, so I had to dress it myself (put the cole slaw and some tartar sauce on it and it turned out well). The shrimp was fresh and the bread was fresh, so it worked out. I was too full to eat the fries, but I ate one and it was fine. Wife had shrimp basket, she was disappointed that they were popcorn shrimp and said they were OK, not the best. Oldest kid: Fried calamari with jalapeño jelly, she said it was very good, everything tasted fresh and the fries were amazing. Youngest kid: Kid's popcorn shrimp basket, she said it was good. I think there are better seafood places, but this was the only one open late on a Sunday night. So that's OK.

This is a very busy place, your waits can be long. The food is very good, mostly all fried. Mixed drink selection is limited, predominantly beer and crazy mixed drinks. Wait staff is very friendly, service can be a little on the slow sid3 due to the volume. Worth giving them a try.

Lots of fried food, particularly fish of course, next to the beach. Bubba's also has a full bar, free wifi, sports on TV, and a large open patio with seating, and drink specials. The decor is shabby chic. The servers and staff all well trained and polite, as well as efficient. There are things on the menu that are not fried, and I should have tried them, though a place that boasts all you can eat catfish any time should have amazing catfish, right? It wasn't bad, though it wasn't as good as a few I've had around Chicago. The hush puppies and crab cake were very good, and the sweet potato waffle fries were decent. The seating is close, so be sure you're on good behavior!

Great service. Ample product. Lots of fried foods. The catfish was great! Flakey and a good breeding. The hush puppies a wet equally good! Get the pickle nickles! You'll be happy with yourself. The prices are reasonable and won't break the bank of you've got a family of five. The atmosphere was a collection of things that they have collected over the years. Feel free to write on the walls and leave your mark. They let us keep our car parked in their lot and walk out on the public pier. That was very cool of them. Pros: Free off street parking, good food and tons of it. I've had better food. That being said this was awesome. A five comes with the absolute best. This would be a 4.75 if possible! Cons: not a whole lot of healthy food here.

We had lunch here one day during our vacation. The inside is fairly small so we had to split up our party of 10. Most enjoyed their food but my cod in my cod basket were fried very hard and wasn't as enjoyable. The hushpuppies, onion rings, fried green tomatoes, and sweet potato waffle fries were good though.

  • Nicole M.

Our waitress, Kim was the best and the food was very filling and delicious at great low cost. My family and I are down here on vacay and I'm so glad I found this spot on Yelp. I ordered the oyster basket while hubby had the shrimp po boy. The kids meals were very filling, as well off the kiddie menu. I can't wait to return next year!

  • Ann Marie D.

Mediocre. That pretty much describes the whole experience at Bubba's. They've got a prime location close to the beach, and where most people stay. The parking lot is small and I imagine in the summer finding a place to park could be problematic. Food was ok. Service was ok. At least they had a TV So I could watch the game....

  • Kandy H.

I just LOVE this place from the hush puppies to the catfish and even Bubettes Good Doins salad. There isn't a bad thing on the menu. The wait staff are all extremely friendly and efficient and if you are lucky enough to be seated in Kim's section get ready for some special treatment, you will feel like family. I gain 5 pounds on every visit to Surfside Beach and I know Bubbas Fish Shack plays a good part in that, it's just that good.

Exactly what you expect a place called Bubba Fish Shack to be like. Crude decor, graffiti, freezer paper table cloths, and roll of towels for napkins....and lots of good fish....Our table had shrimp, and catfish fried and blackened.....it was all great! Some of the blackened was over spiced but if you scrape a little off it was perfect. Waitress was as animated and crude as a cartoon character, but her service was very good. They were busy, and we waited 30min to be seated. With drinks $21/ person and we left the place laughing and very full of fish.

This place is a diamond in the rough. A very casual dining establishment that is kid friendly. My husband and I had an excellent server that put in a rush on our son's meal. We had the crab cakes and they we delicious!

  • David C.

I visited Bubba's while on vacation with my family. This is a smaller, yet very neat restaurant. The service was amazing, as well as the food. We started off with a fried calamari appetizer, which was outstanding, not to mention the great jalapeño jelly that came with it!! Do not pass the jelly up! For dinner, I enjoyed the blackened grouper platter, which had amazing flavor! I will definitely revisit Bubba's when I am back at the beach. Did I mention how awesome the service was? Do not mess up by skipping this restaurant while in town.

  • Craig M.

Seafood, and everything else for that matter, tasted fresh and delicious! The bar was simple and limited, but had decent deals. The reason you would come is for the food. Very limited seating area so expect a lengthy wait. Try the Fried pickles!

  • Tanna L.

Mixed feelings before going to this place but my limited experience was fine. Went on a Sunday night, after the crowds had mostly left. Got there about 9:30. As others mentioned, no draft beer so that's a definite negative. Plopped down by the bar per usual. Lady kept calling me sweetie. I thought she was being overly flirtatious until I realized she called all the guys that. I went with the shrimp po-boy. She informed me that they were out of popcorn shrimp and would have to use the gulf shrimp instead. Score, I thought, and indeed it was. The sandwich was very good. Tasty, sweet gulf shrimp, decent size and amount. Bun was decent with good red onions and lettuce. Fries were average. And that's it. Can't vouch for the other fried offerings. Chairs at the bar were not exactly comfortable. I doubt the popcorn shrimp would have been really good on the po-boy so ask for the gulf shrimp if you can!

  • Fiona D.

Came here for a quick snack, thought it was in the beach but it's across the road with limited beach views. Food was all fried but good, onion rings rocked & the grouper fingers did too.

We were visiting family in Myrtle Beach for the 4th of July and decided to stop by Bubba's for dinner. There was a VERY long wait but we decided to wait for a spot at the bar which wasn't too bad. Bubba's isn't very big so there aren't a lot of places to sit. The food was fantastic, but it is primarily fried food. There isn't much fresh on the menu. We enjoyed our visit, but I will probably check out some of the other places around before deciding my favorite.

Took my family here for dinner on our first night in town. Beware parking is limited and you may need to pay. We were told the the wait for the six of us to get seated would be about 20 minutes, but we were called in less than 10 minutes. Our server suggested an appetizer of fried pickles or fried green tomatoes. We chose to have the fried green tomatoes. Although they were fried just right, I personally would have liked a more spicy seasoning in the batter. However, they were good enough because my family devoured them. I heard from reviews that the portions were big so my husband and I shared the fried catfish platter. The reviews were right, the platter was the equivalent of two plates of food! The fish came with fries, cole slaw and hush puppies. The fish and fries were excellent, we don't care for cole slaw in general so we left that alone. The hush puppies were good although they were missing onion flavor. I tried my daughter's Chili Glazed Shrimp appetizer and liked it so much, I ordered one for myself. I highly recommend this place. The service is excellent and the atmosphere has a fun, festive home style / pub feel.

The place is fun, the staff is great. (Ask to sit in Kims section) the Mahi Mahi sandwich is out of this world. We come back every trip to the beach, without fail!!!!

  • Dani M.

Good food and the friendliest waitress ever. If you are fortunate enough to get Kim, she will make you feel like family. Hush puppies, captains platter and good doin salad. Everything here was exceptional and we had lots of leftovers for lunch the next day.

  • John C.

Seafood was out of this world good!!! Not that greasy fried junk you get from Long John Silvers or Captain D's, but good ol' fried fish with excellent fries and hush puppies!! Kid friendly $5.49 per kid meal!!! I had the Captains Fried Platter, $23.99 and you pick 4 out of 7 of their signature entrees. Completely worth the price!! Family of 5, total bill including tip, $67.54!! Recommend eating on outside porch for bigger groups!!

My husband and two friends of ours hung out here on a Friday night after a chilly motorcycle ride. Laurie was our waitress and she did a great job, especially when it got busier. The ladies had the wedge to drink (Malibu rum and cranberry juice) and the men had whiskey. We ordered the mussels and a dozen half shell oysters as appetizers. The mussels were so good. They were sitting in a garlic and tomato sauce and came with grilled Texas toast. Our buddy just said he wants to get the sauce to go in a cup and the bread, he liked it so much! For our entrees we had the shrimp po-boy, the blackened grouper sandwich (on the spicy side), the BBQ sampler that was very good "for a seafood joint." the ribs were literally falling off the bone. I had the clam chowder which totally hit the spot with cold weather were going in and out of. It's a small place that has plenty of SC beach character and charm! The tables are covered in brown paper and the chairs are made if twine, so dress comfortably. All in all, it was a great way to end our ride and I would definitely recommend Bubba's Fish Shack!

It is a great place, nice atmosphere and good food. We went there around 8 pm it was full and we had to wait around 10 minutes or so. Service is quick and pleasant. Food is perfectly cooked and you get good portions as well. Will be back again for sure!

  • Laura W.

Food was delicious and fast. Most of their menu is fried but they do it well. We got the cod basket, grouper finger basket and clam strip basket. We upgraded and got the sweet potatoe waffle fries. And of course a basket of hush puppies. Our server Tre was friendly and efficient. Great casual meal to have on the beach.

  • M K.

Excellent, fresh seafood. Polite service. Ate there twice with my family while vacationing. Only downside is that you may have to wait for a table because the place is so popular. Definitely worth the wait though, totally recommend it.

  • Lonnie B.

The place is the typical tourist deep fried everything kind of joint. The food is okay and the service was good. We tried the calamari, fried green tomatoes, grouper and popcorn shrimp. They were served with some odd sauce combinations. I asked the waitress out of the four dishes how many were frozen. She said that everything comes in frozen but they batter some items themselves. So don't think your getting anything fresh from the ocean. Lots of neat stuff decorating the place and an adequate selection of bottled beer but I can now check it off my list as been there done that.

  • Angie W.

Pretty good. Reminds us a lot of river city. We had mussels, fried oysters, hush puppies and some wings. For bar food it was a good experience. Our waitress was nice and prompt. All in all, good.

Seafood by the beach (ish) is as fresh as you can get. Got a table on the patio with a good view of the parking lot and the beach in front of that. Cool breeze makes it when you're sipping a strong vodka/lemonade concoction. Got the gigantic catfish platter that included 2 big catfish filets, 3 big fried hushpuppies, and a heaping pile of fries. The catfish was like butter in the mouth, fries were delicious, and the hushpuppies went well with the dipping sauce. A very good meal I couldn't possibly finish. Bravo to the server who basically took care of the entire place by herself and kept a good attitude. Would definitely go back.

  • Jeremy W.

It's difficult doing business near the oceanfront. Sell out and you become just another cliché, run-of-the-mill restaurant for tourists. Bubba's does a great job of avoiding that by keeping the hole-in-the-wall feel that's attractive to travelers and providing good food. The service was excellent and the food was great. The prices were decent, maybe a little on the higher side. The deep fried items being a little too heavy on the stomach is all that keeps this place from being 5 stars in my evaluation. Keep in mind that this isn't a fancy restaurant. Appearances are deceiving but not here. Try some fried shrimp!

Since I'm not a fan of fried seafood but my guest are, we went to Bubbas Fish Shack. I can tell you I'm not a fan. I ordered broiled flounder. Well I can tell you this fish wasn't fresh, you can taste the freezer burn and it had no flavor. I didn't even get a lemon wedge to try to enhance the flavor. Needless to say everyone in our party was quite disappointed. I say stay far away from this place.

We come to the area usually 2x each summer and we ALWAYS visit Bubba's - wouldn't skip it ever! It's a lot of fried southern seafood, but MAN IS IT AWESOME! They do it right! The batter on items is not mushy or greasy - it's crisp and golden and not too much. The fish, whether cod, oysters, shrimp or even the pickles & green tomatoes - they are all fresh, juicy & taste amazing. Great for kids, tables are freshly covered with butcher paper each new customer & paper towel rolls are on the table! Kid-friendly kids meals for the picky eaters! Arrive early on busy weekend nights, it can be over an hour if you come during rush time (whether 2 people or 8, it's a wait). On Friday or Saturday we try to get there by 5pm latest and almost never wait to sit & eat. Also service can be better before 6-8pm rush hours. Our favorite waitress, KIM from Waxhaw, totally rocks and never leaves you hangin'!

Fast service, good grouper and shrimp. Portions are huge!! Fried pickles were good. Atmosphere was friendly and local. Busy dinner crowd.

Excellent place to eat. Quite compared to downtown myrtle. But fun enough to spend a couple hours. Try the chili glazed shrimp!

Our go to place for good fried (but not greasy) seafood. We split the fried captains platter. Catfish and flounder were our favorites. Gulf shrimp and popcorn shrimp good too just enjoyed the fish much more. Prices are very reasonable and portions are generous.

Just left. Hubby had the all you can eat catfish and loved it. I had the crab cake sandwich. Lots of food. Hillbillies are yummy, very cute decor and Bri our server was fabulous.

Ate here our first night in Garden City. We enjoyed our dinner very much. We both had the fried oysters - yum! The portions were huge, we enjoyed the leftovers the next day for lunch. The atmosphere was great too. We will be back.

  • Olga C.

We loved it from the second we walked in. The server came over to the table within 2 minutes of us sitting down. We had clam chowder, and then we split fried seafood platter and added a salad. The clam chowder was AMAZING, huge clams, great flavor. The seafood platter we got had fried flounder, blackened grouper, and we doubled up on the fried oysters. Grouper was good, flounder and oysters - excellent. Our server was great. We didn't have to ask for anything - we had extra plates, refills, another beer at the perfect time. He offered to refill my iced tea before we left so I could take it with me on a hot day. Awesome all around. Going back for lunch tomorrow.

The food was decent and the portion sizes are generous. Ordered the crab cake and fried shrimp. Didn't taste fresh, most likely microwaved but it wasn't bad. The service was really good. Our server took care of us very well and was very friendly. The beer here was also very cheap. ($3-4 a bottle)

We always make a point to stop here while on vacation. The staff is friendly and the food is good. I like the poy-boy shrimp. The sweet potato waffle fries are awesome! Go early in the evening and it's a quick and easy stop to eat.

First time here. This place holds its own among seafood restaurants. The service was fast and efficient. I had the fried clams - they were really good, but not special. A friend had the creek shrimp which were fantastic! But, the real stars of the meal were the hushpuppies. They were wonderful! I will definitely come back here the next time I'm in the area. Hmm... maybe I'll try the crab cake!

I was little nervous about this place but boy, was this place a gem. I have gone twice this year and the food and service was exceptional both times. I have tried and really liked the fried calamari, green tomatoes, pickles and wings. The sweet tea is the thing to get drink. My absolute favorite dinner is the Grilled chicken salad. It's enormous and delicious. Cannot recommend this place enough. Do not forget to leave your mark, literally. Before you go, many a patron have signed their name in the waiting area. It's a must stop for both my in laws and family.

    (5)
  • Chris P.

The only reason Bubbas didn't get 5 stars was due to my shrimp being slightly over boiled...a little hard to peel. The chili-glazed wings appetizer was spot-on good! Crispy with sweet& heat! The blackened grouper sandwich was excellent, as was the Caesar salad... Our waiter Joseph D was friendly and fast! Recommended!!

    (4)
  • Larry W.

I ordered the Blackened Grouper sandwich. It was spicy but very fishy tasting. My wife ordered crab cake sandwich and it was good. I really like the location and decor Waitress was really good. I ordered a burger and it wasn't any better. I would have came back again But they charged me for the nasty grouper sandwich so I won't be back. Sorry guys.

First time going to this restaurant while staying across the street at Surfside Beach Resort. I went with my husband and we were seated quickly. It has a dive bar type feel with a very welcoming staff. I got the flounder sandwich and my husband got the bbq chicken wings. The serving sizes are good - i was only able to eat half my sandwich and my husband had 3 wings left (out of 10). Our waiter was attentive and the food is reasonably priced.

As advertised. Nice wait staff and decor. Close to beach. Pretty good food, lots of fried stuff on menu

Best fried food place in the area. The only complaint I have is $4 corona . The wait staff is great and the food is awesome fried goodness even if you normally avoid fried foods make this your cheat day! Get it in and run an extra mile :)

Second time visiting. My mom and I both had the crab cake platter, which was delicious! It was served with a Cajun mayo that was great on the crab cakes, coleslaw, fries, and dense, sweet hush puppies. The atmosphere is pleasant, the staff friendly, and the prices very reasonable for seafood. Outside under the deck are a series of porch swings to sit on while you wait for your table. They were all full when we got there, so we sat on the log fence by the road instead. There was a nice breeze coming off the ocean and it was all in all a good, relaxing night.

  • Dani J.

Great location off of the beach. The food was good. I had the calamari with an awesome relish type dipping sauce along with sweet potato fries. Others at the table had fried catfish and fried cod. We also had fried green tomatoes with Cajun ranch dipping sauce. Prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is laid back and friendly.

I was so glad we left the typical $30 buffet place and went for Bubba's! The waitress was great, food was delicious, and reasonably priced! We enjoyed the fried pickles (so delicious), a giant portion of shrimp which were fresh and tasty. Would highly recommend. Wait time was reasonable as well given that it was a holiday week.

  • Megan S.

I love Bubba's! Whenever I'm in Surfside, I have to stop here at least once. Their fried green tomatoes are awesome. I'm not usually a fan of southern style, fry everything seafood, but their catfish is amazing; my favorite item on the menu. The prices are pretty reasonable for a tourist town and the service us typically friendly and fast.

    (5)
  • Debra E.

We sat out on the deck. This was a great place, even though it was quite windy we were protected and had no worry about stuff blowing around. The atmosphere is.rustic and goes well with the cousin. The Waite staff was attentive and friendly. We had the fried clam platter and the blackened grouper. Both of our meals were very good and served hot.

Spent an hour online looking for a decent restaurant with standard old seafood choices and reasonable prices (which eliminates all the touristy seafood buffets). Bubba's was the place! The staff was friendly, the service was good and quick, and the prices were a wallet saver. Note, it is very small, the atmosphere is quaint and can be noisy. Bar offers a small selection of bottled beers (no draft). If you like fried seafood, this is the place. No complaints!

My friend and I arrived in Surfside Beach, for the first time, yesterday afternoon. Our hotel happened to be across the street from Bubbas Fish Shack. As tired as we were, we decided to eat here. We heard it got really busy, but at around 330p there weren't many there. We sat down and our server, Kim, came over to scrawl her name on the paper cover on the table. She is super attentive. You're lucky to get her. We ordered two appetizers, the fried green tomatoes and the fried calamari. Tomatoes come batter fried with chipotle sauce. The calamari is typically prepared but served with a jalapeño sweet jelly. Oh my, both dishes were amazing. My entree was the blackened grouper sandwich. The fish was SO fresh and perfectly blackened. My friend and I even made jokes about how when Kim left the table she must have ran across the street to the ocean to spear it herself haha. Fries were good and crispy. Cole slaw was fresh. My best friend got the shrimp po'boy. She loved it! I tasted a shrimp and they were incredibly fresh as well. ALL food came out in less than 15 minutes. CRAZY FAST. We also had drinks, they were okay. Where we are from, drinks are made a little stronger. But all in all, Bubbas Fish Shack was an amazing welcome to Surfside Beach! Will return again...maybe tomorrow hahaha.

Nice touristy atmosphere. Service & Hospitality was great. Had the flounder plate. Everything was excellent except the flounder was mushy, which in my experience means: frozen to long. I would go back but order something else.

  • Kris T.

Great food, affordable prices! We visit the beach often because we have a vacation home there. While we love to go to the seafood buffets, they can be extremely overpriced! Bubba's is the type of place regulars keep secret! It is close to the beach with a great menu spanning everything from flounder to po'boys to wings! The food is fresh and seasoned well. This is the place to go when you want seafood without breaking the bank on a 30$ buffet! Good to know: the restaurant is upstairs, so if you or a loved one can't walk up a flight, consider ordering ahead and getting it to-go.

Awesome catfish and fried green tomatoes. Clam chowder was yummy too. Long waits at dinner hour (like all restaurants around here) so I you get the chance sit at the bar and eat there. Friendly staff.

Almost all the food was fried, but their seafood was fresh, their staff was friendly, and everything came out quickly. Their fried green tomatoes were excellent!

This is a painful review to write. Bubba's is traditionally our first stop at the beach... even before checking into our rental. Check in day was over 100 degrees and the A/C has never been sufficient to keep the restaurant a comfortable temperature, so we delayed our visit until later in the week. Dinner at 4pm and parking was still a nightmare. Plenty of seating available. Our table ordered fried grouper, ayce catfish, and fried shrimp. All was ok. Coleslaw was bad: not spoiled but completely tasteless. It didn't even taste like cabbage. Hushpuppies which are usually my favorite part of the meal were good, but can make them as good at home. For the above, Bubba's would receive 3 stars except..... Bubba's = fried oysters for me. Unfortunately, they had no fried oysters. The waitress said there was an oyster shortage, but I had already had oysters earlier in the week. Bubba's had oysters on the half shell but that the fresh and fried come from different regions. This left me to assume that the seafood all comes in pre-battered and frozen or else the kitchen could have fried the fresh oysters. Bubba's is part of the Divine Dining Group. Their cups have all of the Divine restaurants' logos on them and I couldn't help but notice that two of the logos have been removed this year. The paper that lined the baskets for the food came from Pawley's Raw Bar and other disposables on the table came from River City Café. I'm left wondering if Bubba's is going to be there next year. If it is, will it still be part of the DDG? Honestly, not too worried about it either way.

There are signs posted but the no smoking policy is not strictly enforced on the balcony. This did not make for a pleasant experience. However the food is very good. Review would be better if they took care of the random smokers outside.

I love this place. Me and my family come here every time we visit Myrtle Beach. It's great "down home" southern cooking. Fried fried fried, but delicious. I always get the fried shrimp platter and the clam chowder and I'm never disappointed!

We were a bit turned off when we realized that the place was actually a bit farther away from the ocean than we thought. Another downside was that they did not have draft beer. After overcoming those setbacks, my wife had the fried oysters and I had the flounder sandwich. Both were good, but not amazing.

Everything cooked perfectly. Little bit of a wait. But worth it. Our 4 Kids 3-11 in the group enjoyed! Sit outside if there's a good breeze. Crab cakes loaded with meat. Nothing overlooked or dry. Very well prepared. Fast service.

Catfish is wonderful!!! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his. Raw oysters were a little big, and the crab cake was ok. The Cajun sauce was excellent. They are also accommodating for those with allergies. Always a must eat!

Food is great! Service is great... If they're not crowded. Hushpuppies are awesome! They represent the Divine Dining Group very well.

My girlfriend and I weren't at all impressed with this place. The only reason that we tried this place was because it was in close proximity to our hotel and we didn't want drive due to enjoying several drinks prior to eating dinner. Once seated the waitress took my girlfriend's drink order but totally disregarded that I was even sitting at the table. She returns with two waters even though I was ready to order a margarita when she took my girlfriend's drink order. We ordered raw oysters as an appetizer and my girlfriend made the comment that she has had better at Pappadeaux in Plano, Texas four or five ours away from any beach. I ordered a chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries but was given regular fries with my meal. The drink was pretty good but overall I would not recommend this place.

Took the family here for dinner after reading reviews here. I give it three stars as it was okay but not great. Had to pay to park around back as the main lot, which is small, was full. Only a dollar an hour but still a little inconvenient. The kids enjoyed the big wooden swings under the deck as we waited for seats. No reservations accepted, but the wait wasn't bad considering how busy they were. The buffalo shrimp app was pretty good, but I was surprised I had to pay for hush puppies since most places around here bring as many as you want for free. The fried oyster platter was very generous in size and pretty tasty too. I didn't even eat the little side salad I ordered because I was so stuffed. The kids enjoyed their grouper bites and apple sauce. We didn't sample any desserts, so I can't comment on them. Our server was very friendly and catered to my kids, so I definitely rate this place as kid friendly. She was also prompt and courteous with the rest of our group too. The view is just okay as it sits on the second row off the beach. All in all, I was pleased with our experience here but definitely think there are better options in the same price range. Not blown away but not disappointed either...

In town on vacation and tried this place for seafood. Food was amazing. We had a table of 7 and everyone enjoyed their meals, including those who are not fond of seafood. Top dishes we tried: Crab cakes - well prepared and they were huge Peel and eat shrimp - prepared with Cajun spice, excellent quality Oyster on half shell - had one dozen, excellent Catfish platter - Midwest natives really enjoyed the catfish Our waitress was excellent as well! Can't recommend this place enough.

Fun place across the street from the beach. Went for lunch with kids and grandparents. Not too busy during the week in Sept. Menu offered lots of choices and we had some coupons from local coupon books. Everything we had was delish! I hate pickles but ate the fried pickles. The fried Green Tomato was amazing. I didn't want to share. Hushpuppies were awesome too. Kids ate all their food. I wanted to go back on this trip but didn't make it. Service was good. We will be back when visiting grandma!

Seriously good seafood! We ate here over the summer while staying at Myrtle Beach State Park. It was quite a crowd gathered when we arrived and that us generally a good sign. I can honestly say it was worth the wait.

good location (block next to beach). Seemed to have good lunch interest. Food cost? Twice of what you would normally pay. $2.50 PBRs.

Mediocre selection of seafood, but tasty and not badly priced. A few local selections like fried green tomatoes and hush puppies on the menu keep it interesting...

I LOVE Bubba's Fish Shack!! This is my absolute favorite place to eat at when vacation at the beach. If you haven't tried this place yet......then you really should. You will love it! The place is cool, the staff is great and the food is fantastic. Go....go...go!

Got hush puppies, shrimp po' boy sandwich, and cat fish basket with fries. Hush puppies were really good. They were pretty big and piping hot. Both the entrees were hot out of the fryer. This place isn't a fancy place, but it's great for a beach side restaurant.

I enjoyed my experience at Bubbas! The food was reasonably priced for the area and the portions were generous. I had the grouper fingers and enjoyed them. The other members of my party seemed to like their food as well which included the Crab Cakes and the fried pickles. The wait staff was friendly and kept my drink full. I'd visit again!

Had to get take out here this past Satirday becasue my son was sick in our hotel room. Just ordered the fried oyster dinner whcih was very tasty. Girl behimnd the bar with curly hair was great. She knew everyone's name at her bar which impressed me. Made me feel welcome even though I just ordered an iced tea and food to go. My husband went back the next day for a drink at the bar and said it was very good and the staff was friendly. When he descrid=bed the girl behidn the bar witha lot of energy, I think it was the same one there that friday night. Wish we could have had a sit down dinner, but will do so next time. The plates going iout of the kitchen looked yummy and the people eating seemed happy.

First, realize this is not fine dining. The food is served on wax paper in plastic baskets. However, the food ranges from decent to surprisingly good. Sometimes they skimp on lettuce and tomato for the sandwiches and the food seems like it is thrown together quickly - which it is. Drinks are reasonable. You get a view of the ocean from the balcony and service is usually quick. The food is good for what the place is - cheap, decent and near the beach. By the way, it is a Divine Group restaurant so it feels a little chain-ish, but all told it is worth a trip if you are nearby.

I went here recently while on a mini-vacation at Myrtle Beach. It was one of the only non-buffets that received moderately good reviews. The food is ok, what you'd expect at a seafood place. Mostly deep-fried. I had the Flounder plate and my friend had the Crab Cake plate. I received only one piece of Flounder atop a basket of fries. I have to say that for a fish shack, I felt a little jipped with the lack of food I got. Granted, I don't think I need an oversized plate of food to be happy but I expected a larger portion coming from a place called Bubbas. The Atmosphere was nice and what you'd want in a seafood shack at the beach. I'd eat here again.

Great food ie blackened grouper, hush puppies, fried oyster, flounder. Great atmosphere for the beach with big fans and large picnic tables with paper towel rolls on the table. Great service too! Our waitress took such great care of our kids, we felt like we had a built in babysitter. I highly recommend if you're looking for a laid back casual beach experience.

Small, casual space. Went there for lunch. Very nice waitress. Ordered hush puppies, peel & eat shrimp and a margarita. Hush puppies were good as I like sweet cornmeal hush puppies. Got the shrimp cold, but maybe should have taken them hot. They were still well seasoned. Stick to beer as drink was small and a mix. Overall it was an ok dining experience.

Had a nice lunch there after walking down the beach from the Garden City Pier. Very friendly staff and a nice menu. Everything we had was well prepared and in nice portions. Peel and eat shrimp were very good as were the onion rings. Very much worth a try if you're in the area and ready to eat. $2 PBRs was a nice bonus.

My husband and I stopped in to Bubba's after a day on the beach - we were famished yet it was only about 3:00. Hungrier than a sandwich would satisfy, but not quite ready for a full-on dinner entree. Bubba's had plenty of options for us. We shared two appetizers - the chili glazed shrimp and the Bubba-Lo Shrimp (buffalo style/hot) - along with a basket of fries and an order of hush puppies. The food was great - shrimp were not overly breaded nor overcooked ; just right. Each was served in a basket, and there was just the right amount for 2 people - not a huge portion but also not skimpy. The fries, too, were great. I wasn't as crazy about the hushpuppies, which were large balls of very heavy bread served with butter. They were good, but would have been better if they weren't so dense. I'm always a sucker for great atmosphere, and Bubba's certainly has it (if you're looking for a beachy fish shack). They had tons of old fishing and nautical items around - old bouys galore, life preservers, old wooden boat, etc. Wooden floors and graffiti make Bubba's feel like a place you've been going to forever. The service we received was good, pleasant and quick. Only shortcoming was that they had a single option for wine - Gallo. Not the end of the world, and considering the type of restaurant it is, perfectly fine. I got sweet tea, which was fantastic, and served in a plastic stadium cup which was ideal for taking with me. Bubba's is a new favorite of ours. Great selection of beach favorites and comfort food, although not terribly diet friendly. We recommend it!

Service started out a little slow and quite honestly we were almost ready to walk out because it took so long for our server to take our order. But once he did things picked up. The food came out quickly and was hot. We each had the crab cake appetizer and shared an order of mussels. Both really delicious. We asked for extra bread and got it right away tho there was a small extra charge. Very pleased overall. Would definitely come back.

Bubba's Fish Shack was one of our favorite eating spots during the vacation...in fact the only one we went to more than once. The staff was very friendly and quick. We were able to eat outside both times we went, which is a benefit with kids. They allow you to sign the building with crayon, which the kids also really liked. The hush puppies were the best of our vacation. We also had some of the fried pickles as an app, which were also good, but a little salty. I had the Oyster Po-boy the first day and the blackened grouper the last day. I would get the Po-boy over the grouper next time.

Love the local feel. We ate at the bar because we were to hungry to wait. Crabcake app was okay. Fried pickles were good, but sitting in a pool of oil. We shared the Captain's Seafood Platter. Popcorn shrimp and flounder were good and the catfish was great, huge piece and very fresh. The downside was the hush puppies. They were just basic. Would have been nice if the batter had some other texture like chopped onions. With a seafood buffet or chain on every corner, this is a great option with very reasonable prices.

The three of us ate here the other night and it was super! My mother and I got the flounder sandwiches and my husband got the burger. The flounder was so tasty and a good portion. We didn't eat the bread but focused on the fish and the 2 large fried green tomatoes that come with it!! The french fries were real good and so was the cole slaw. I also ordered fried pickles and half dozen raw oysters. Both were just perfect! Oysters good size and nice and cold! An order of pickles was large! and came with I believe ranch dressing to dip the pickles in! My husband said it was a really good burger. Nothing fancy here - very casual - but it was perfect for us! Price was right, service was great, and food fantastic! These people care about what they do!

This place was great! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was fun. The wait staff was kind and friendly. I had the blackened grouper and let me tell you, I rarely clean my plate, I would have ripped off my grandmothers arm if she tried to take a bite! If your in the area and can, go here for dinner. I was not however happy with the selection of food. They only had a few things on their menu, but it is in no way a downfall because they have a little bit of everything but everything we tried, was amazing!

This was a pleasant surprise, as was the drive down Ocean Blvd. in Surfside. The service was great, even during a relatively busy time of a high-season night. With two kids under the age of seven, you never know how the servers will react, but they did what I hoped they would- took care of the most demanding customers first, and then took care of the adults. The food was surprisingly good for Calabash-style seafood. Not too greasy, not overly breaded- you could tell that it came from the sea at one time. The grouper (blackened) was a little off, but it was also Monday, and hey, that's what I get for ordering blackened fish. I'd suggest this for a family night, or even a night out with friends while staying at the strand.

Came here with a gaggle of family members and I remember one thing... The ribs. Sooooo goooooood. Now I'm a 'use the correct fork' kind of girl, and I have more than a passing understanding of microbiology... so I'd never done this before... but when I accidentally dropped the last rib on the floor,I was compelled to pick it up and eat it. Ya. That f*ing good.

Bubba's Fish Shack is a cool little fish house that would be on the beach if not for some vacation rental home in the way. The food was great! The raw oysters were some of the biggest and best I had ever eaten. I had blacked grouper it was good, next time I would get it deep fried. My wife had a flounder sandwich with fried green tomatoes it is worth every penny. Bubba's has a really good vibe and the waitress we had was so friendly and attentive. Give it a try, I don't think you will be disappointed.

My wife and I were planning on visting Myrtle Beach, so I did my research for good places to eat in the area, and was directed here. We ended up going here at some point during the middle of our week long vacation. I wished we had gone earlier so we could have ate their more than twice. We have some freinds that live a few hours away from Myrtle Beach. We told them about the place and it is now one of their favorite places to go when in the area. I can't wait to go back again.

We decided to try bubba's fish shack for the first time while on vacation. Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly staff. The food was great! Specifically the fried green tomatoes as an app and the all you can eat fried catfish was wonderful. This restaurant will become a regular stop on our future vacations to garden city, sc.

On vacation in Surfside for the week, I showed up here on Thursday evening, about 5:30. I was meeting family members who had bellied up to the bar for a couple late afternoon drinks and had seriously considered bringing the rest of the family for dinner. We were in the mood for seafood and this place is right around the corner. But, when I came into the restaurant from outside, I noticed that the temperature inside the building seemed almost the same as the temp outside (90s). Although there were a few ceiling fans, the heat was unbearable. We decided to go elsewhere. Although management explained the temperature was due to the constant opening and closing of the door, many other restaurants and stores seem to have no problem staying really cool in spite of their doors being open constantly. I'll be back in Surfside Beach next summer and hope this place can cool off a bit so I can stick around and eat there!

Nothing about this place will overly impress you, but its a good place to eat for the price. If you're okay with alot of fried food, you will not be disappointed. The portions are very generous. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the service was top notch. If you need a break from the higher priced restaurants in the area but don't want fast food, then this is a great choice.

Ah........comfort food. The food was exactly what you would expect at a place called Bubba's Fish Shack. GREASY- but delish. Yumbo crabcakes, baskets full of fish and fries, grouper fingers, hush puppies, etc. Fun décor, generous portions, nice staff, reasonably priced. If it wasn't for the zit that I immediately grew after dinner, I'd go back tonight......as it is, I'll be running extra to undo the damage. Ahhh...... Fried everything. Nice to be at the beach.
